Rainbow-Colored Dining Chairs Are the Centerpiece of This L.A. Workspace
“Visiting a person’s workspace is like taking a peek inside their brain. Whether it’s at home or in an art studio, Nice Work explores where creative people do all of their, well, creating—so that you can steal their on-the-clock style.
Names: Nikki Reed and Staci Inspektor
Occupation: Cofounders (and best friends) of Atelier Saucier.
What time we start:
Reed: We like to kick-start our days together with a workout from 7 to 8 a.m. Our workouts vary—from Barry’s to HIIT classes to Pilates. We are also new members of the Venice Run Club; it’s helping us train for the upcoming half-marathon this summer. We then arrive at the studio between 9 and 10.
What time we clock out:
Inspektor: Mentally, never! We leave the office whenever the work for the day is done, typically around 6 p.m.
How we get to work:
Reed: We both live about 15 minutes from the studio in Venice and drive to work each day, sometimes together and sometimes separately when we have a lot of errands to run (so we are able to divide and conquer)!
Three words that describe our space:
Reed: Colorful, organized, energetic.
Inspektor: Systematic, fun, creative.
Most important thing in our studio:
Inspektor: First and foremost, our amazing team members! And of course all our machinery, which ranges from sewing machines (both single needle and overlock) to an industrial cutting machine to a heat-press label machine.
Reed: Our beloved iron, also known as “la plancha.”
What’s on the walls:
Reed: Other than design boards, a production board, and a few pieces of art, we keep our walls clean and white.
Inspektor: While our walls are white, we do have fun, colorful branded shapes on our street-facing door to invite people in.
Current creative fuel:
Reed: The infectious energy of Los Angeles. We both live in Venice and work in Culver City—two neighborhoods filled with innovative startups and entrepreneurs, so they’re buzzing with creativity. With the fashion district located down the road, we’re lucky to have access to an endless supply of materials and resources, allowing us to sustainably bring our ideas to fruition.
What we turn to when we’re stuck:
Reed: We typically turn to our favorite artist of all time, Robyn, and have an office dance party to get the creative juices flowing. Some of the biggest hurdles we have come up against have been solved using this approach.
Inspektor: If we are majorly stuck, watching a moody, artistic film can really open up some headspace for new and exciting ideas.
How we stay organized:
Reed: Our shared Notes app allows us to constantly communicate in real time.
Inspektor: Since we include handwritten notes in all of our shipping boxes, we are very particular about our pens! Our favorite black pen at the moment is by LePen—it transforms anyone’s handwriting into its most beautiful form and has an elevated look on our cards.
Reed: Monogrammed Shinola notebooks! We love personalizing anything and everything, and they keep us organized and feeling classy.
Technology we can’t live without:
Desk chair that we could (and do) spend hours in:
Inspektor: Custom vintage-inspired wood chairs we had made in our branded colors.
How we fight the 3 p.m. slump:
Reed: Orange Sparkling Celsius.
Ideal office snack:
Inspektor: Chips, chips, and more chips! Favorite flavors in no particular order: kettle salt and vinegar, Zapp’s Voodoo—and one of our all-time favorites is Ruffles sour cream and Cheddar!
Reed: Our workout instructor’s Spotify playlists are on constant repeat. His collection of incredible mashups is here!
